My name is AJ Hadfield and I have been a doula for over eighteen years in Calgary. During that time, I have been privileged to support hundreds of families from all walks of life. I have come to this profession after 25 years as a military wife, living all over the world, so I understand how important support is to a family.
I am proud to be certified as both a birth and postpartum doula through DONA International and am a DONA approved postpartum doula trainer. I am a past president of the Calgary Doula Association and was a member of their executive for 8 years. I am a Certified Lactation Educator, trained through the Simkin Centre for Allied Birth Vocations (Bastyr University).
I have two wonderful daughters - Kate is 36 and Claire is 33.
I deeply believe that consistent, non-judgmental support in the prenatal, birth and early postpartum days can make a huge difference in how a family copes with the transition to parenthood. I believe that a new mother needs and deserves to be nurtured, both physically and emotionally. She needs someone to ensure that she gets adequate food and rest. She also needs someone who can listen to her story, hear her fears and rejoice in her triumphs.
I consider it an honour to be allowed to be part of this incredible time in a family's life.
